Medications used for Chronic Pain
There are several types of medications that are commonly used to treat chronic pain, including:
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and naproxen
- Acetaminophen
- Opioids such as morphine, fentanyl, and oxycodone
- Antidepressants such as amitriptyline and duloxetine
- Anticonvulsants such as gabapentin and pregabalin
- Muscle relaxants such as flexeril
- Topical pain relievers such as creams, gels, and patches containing capsaicin, lidocaine, or menthol
It is important to note that each person’s experience with pain and pain management is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. Talk to your doctor to determine the best treatment plan for you.
